When Watson called on his friend, Mr. Sherlock Holmes, Holmes talked with a fat , red-faced gentleman with bright red hair, Mr. Wilson. One day, Wilson found about The Red-headed League from an employee he hired. It was content that you can make money with simple work. He was chosen as a member of the league, and started the work to copy a dictionary.

However, he was deceived. When he went to work, paper was stuck on the door and written that "The Red-headed League is dissolved."

Holmes investigated and found out that John Clay digs a hole from the office to the bank that is next door.
